Wunderbar

Since September 2023, I’ve been learning German actively and even though I’ve finished the B1 level in the language school, I’ve realized that I need to improve my vocabulary to be able to speak more fluently. I’ve tried different apps like Duolingo, Babbel, and Memrise, but I couldn’t be consistent with them. I wanted to have a simple app that I can use on my Mac while working and memorize the most common words in German. That’s why I’ve built Wunderbar.

Wunderbar is a simple macOS app that helps you memorize the most common words in your target language with the spaced-repetition technique. The app shows you a word in your target language and you try to remember the translation in your native language (for now only in English, German and Turkish). If you already know the word, you can mark it as known and the app will show you the word less frequently. If you don’t know the word, you will see it more often until you learn it.

You can listen to the pronunciation of the word, see an example sentence and change the freqeuncy of refreshing the word. The app is designed to be simple and minimalistic so that you can focus on the words and memorize them easily while working.

With Wunderbar, you can learn German, Spanish, Italian, French, Japanese, Dutch and Swedish. If you speak German or Turkish, you can also learn English with the app. I’m planning to add more languages in the future and improve the app based on the feedback I get from the users.
